In March of this year we moved into our new premises, as covered by one of our earlier blogs. In September we had our official opening where several local MP’s, funders and interested parties were shown around the new site.

To tie in with this opening the warehouse is now up and running. Whilst we are still in the early stages of getting it fully operational, it was a great day when we could finally get our guys into their new surroundings. With an increased workspace, better offices and a smart new canteen we look forward to welcoming even more people through the door to gain some valuable work experience. Below are a couple of pictures of the warehouse before and after the refit.

LAMH Recycle Ltd is looking for volunteer van drivers to take part in our recycling operation. Vans operate between 9:00am and 4:00pm Monday – Friday. The position is open to people who can give at least one day a week up to a maximum of five days per week.

Do you have a computer, a printer or a monitor that no longer works? Are you unsure what to do with this equipment? At LAMH Recycle Ltd we are happy to take donations of unwanted IT equipment from individuals and we will dispose of it in an environmentally sound way.
One of our main goals is to divert any unwanted IT equipment from being disposed of in landfill so we offer a recycling service of our own. We will strip down all the parts (remove the metal, plastic, cables etc) and ensure that these materials are sent to licensed local recyclers.

We now have a number of Windows 7 PC’s available for sale. These machines, featuring the current Windows Operating System all come with a Dual Core processor (1.8 – 3.0GHz), at least 1GB RAM (upgrades available) and a minimum 160GB Hard Drive. They are all available as base units alone or as a package with a FREE monitor, keyboard & mouse.
These machines would be ideal for students who need a computer for their coursework, browsing the internet and for downloading music and films. I began working with LAMH Recycle in March 2012 on a six month contract through the Community Jobs Fund as a Customer Care Assistant after being unemployed for about a year.

At the end of my six months I hope to get into a permanent job using all the skills and training I have learned whilst being here. My job is very rewarding, especially when customers come back time and again to buy more products because  they have been so pleased with their previous experiences. In my role I deal with day to day phone calls from customers checking on repairs they have in with us or just making enquiries about the computers and laptops we sell. I also deal with customers coming into the shop that are sometimes undecided in what they require so they need help.

I am now half way through my six months contract and I am thoroughly enjoying every minute of it. I am so grateful to everyone who has helped me out and taught me new skills along the way.

I began working with LAMH Recycle in December 2010 as a Clerical Assistant through the Future Jobs Fund on a temporary six months contract after being unemployed for a year.

At the end of my six months I was delighted when my contract was extended on a month to month basis. My supervisor highlighted the potential she saw in me and how eager I was to learn and stay in employment. That was 14 months ago and I have now been given the opportunity to do an SVQ Level 3 in Business Administration through Microcom.

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I have been given and would like to thank everyone who supported me!

Leaflet Drop

Look out for our new posters and leaflets that are going to be distributed around the Muirhouse and Netherton areas in the coming weeks. Now that we have settled into the area we are hoping to get our message and services out to the local community. So, if you’re looking for a low-cost PC, have a computer that is not working properly or simply want somewhere to recycle your old paper/magazines/card then please drop by and see us.

Following the move into our new premises in mid March, we have worked hard to get the site looking how we want and we are pleased with the results so far – take a look for yourselves! Once the warehouse is fully operational it will greatly increase our capacity for additional workplace opportunities.

We have also completed our first (of many hopefully) PC build, surf and keep courses. This course is aimed at providing learning and development for up to 5 unemployed youngsters at a time and takes place over the course of a week in our new IT training room.
